The video from my first live cooking demo is up. It's a bit nerve wracking for me to put it up here, mainly because I kinda enjoy for the most part what is my anonymity, but what the hell, right?
Now keep in mind that Shankari doesn't say anything because we only had two microphones. Also, I am nervous as hell during this whole deal. Shankari had to grab my hands (off camera) to keep them from shaking. I don't recall any of this, it's just a blur to me, though I recall yelling in my head to myself at the end of it, "STOP LOOKING AT THE GROUND! LOOK UP AT THE CAMERA OR AT TINA. WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? STOP LOOKING AT THE DAMN GROUND!"
On a personal note, I am shocked and upset at the fact that I apparently have the gayest sounding voice ever, and some limp fucking wrists. Goddammit. But maybe it's just me being self critical...
If you want the recipe for the cupcake featured it's right next to the video or you can go to it's original posting HERE.
Anywhose, the CLICK for Bri fund raiser is going great! We're more than three quarter of the way to our goal!!! If you haven't donated, I hope you'll take a moment to check it out. There are some awesome prizes up for grabs in our raffle from camera equipment to cookbooks to personal cooking lessons!
Honestly, I'm a better teacher in person... which you can soon see if you so choose. But that's the topic of the next post, so be sure to return dear reader.
Actually, from your description, I expected a disaster, but it was really good! You did a great job, and the cupcakes look yummy.
ReplyDeleteGood job! I found myself doing the same looking at the ground thing in my video with Food Network's Sunny Anderson... and we were just eating cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteIn my previous life (before blogging!) I had a job where I frequently had to appear on TV, so I can reassure you that everyone always hates the way they look and sound when they see themselves. I thought you were fantastic, you seemed so calm and confident. Also didn't even once think about your voice sounding gay.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I did keep thinking was "How does he eat all those cupcakes and stay so slim?" Enjoy the young metabolism while you have it!
Well, I think you sound great and I loved the recipe too. It's not easy, to face the cameras, answer questions and teach, all at the same time! So congratulations! And I'll try that recipe sometime, for sure!

I think you sound great! Very proud...
ReplyDeleteI think you were gr8! You did an awesome job!I love the cupcakes.
ReplyDeleteHi Garrett,
ReplyDeleteI happened to catch that segment live out of the blue (I never watch tv) and thought you were great. You seemed very calm to me. And all those dumb reporter questions, you rolled with them so well!
Garrett be very proud of yourself you went out for a very worthy heartfelt cause, you were brave and came off really professional. i know i do not liket the way i look on camera or sound on tape. blah, blah you did it for the right reasons and that is what matters. happy saturday.
ReplyDeleteHow stressful must that have been? I think you did terrificly well and as a PR consultant can I say that it was an amazing piece of coverage for Bri's appeal.
ReplyDeleteYou did a fine job. I could tell TV wasn't your first pick job from the first 30 seconds of bashfully avoiding the camera but otherwise you were fine.
ReplyDeleteYou looked good (I want your metabolisim). You sounded good. And you did a good thing.
Now I just need some time to try the recipe!
I think your too critical of yourself. You did a great job. I didn't notice any limp wrists or a gay sounding voice. I thought you did a good job. It will become easier as you do more. I'm signing up for your class at Whole Foods so I don't want to see "limp wrists or gay voice" LOL.. just kidding.. looking foreward to that class.
ReplyDeleteYou did just fine! I thought you came across as quite comfortable on screen, came across as confident and 'chatty' - all of which is good.
ReplyDeleteNice recipe as well!
Personally I am intrigued by a 3 year old tomato plant...
ReplyDeleteAwesome job!! I didn't notice your alleged "limp wrists" because I kept thinking how slender and strong your hands looked... You did great, but I wish the reporter would have asked more about Bri!
ReplyDeleteWhat you are doing for her is awesome!
Your video was great! You're desserts look delicious and I don't think you looked at the ground too much at all... for all we viewers knew, you were just looking at the cupcakes! Anyway, I can't wait to try my hand at baking some rosemary lemon cupcakes and I hope to catch you next time I am in Sac for a live demo... mmmmm! Thanks, Kat
ReplyDeleteGarrett ~ Yes, sweetheart, you are being hard on yourself - and if only you didn't use "gayest" as a negative adjective...You seemed to be onto it, at ease, and it is great that you had a good friend at your side. Nice recipe, too. Maybe I'll make cupcakes this weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou're completely self-critical! I've met hetero guys that have such high-pitched voices, you'd think they had glided wings hidden under their shirt!
ReplyDeleteAnd you did really well on camera. Everyone without regular TV experience gets really nervous on camera, even if it's just for a video for home. And I think you did better than the reporter.
Dude. You were fine. After your description, I was expecting you to shout something like, "FAB-U-LUSSS!!!" a la Big Gay Al, but you were just you, which is definitely not the "gayest" thing ever.
ReplyDeleteWhat was not fine was that hideous camera work! Could that podunk station not afford a steady cam? Christ, it was like the Blair Witch Project of Cupcakedom...
No way, you're the voice of the Army Advantage Fund ads? Oh wait, you came on after that right? Well there goes the whole gravely voice and Daniel Craig looks mystique that I always thought was the true Vanilla Garlic. ;) Dude whatever, you were great! Maybe this is the start of a bright future in public access commentary? :)
